For Coldwell Banker agent Terry McCarthy, the world of real estate was one she was exposed to from a young age. “My mother was a realtor in Arlington for many years. By watching her, I was very aware of what it meant to be in the business. I observed her working different hours, and now it never surprises me if a client calls me at night with questions or concerns.” This innate receptiveness to the dynamics of real estate has helped McCarthy thrive in the profession, earning her a spot in Coldwell Banker’s International President’s Elite, an honor reserved for the top 2% of all agents worldwide.
With over 17 years of experience, McCarthy has enjoyed working on properties of all shapes, sizes and designs. One special home in her portfolio that recently went under agreement is a charming converted barn in Belmont with two bedrooms and views of the Boston skyline. “It’s very picture book,” says McCarthy.
Although McCarthy serves the metro region, Belmont and its surrounding neighborhoods are her home base. “I’ve lived in Belmont for 31 years. It has a small-town feel, is very walkable and is so close to Cambridge and Boston.” Understandably, buyers want in. Yet the biggest challenge is one that areas across the state are facing: lack of inventory. When property owners express interest in putting their house on the market, McCarthy comes prepared with input from buyers about what they’re looking for in a residence. Reporting this feedback helps her sellers prepare their homes for the market. McCarthy underscores the value of staging to help present dwellings at their best. “We live one way and we sell our houses a different way. This maximizes the sale price,” says McCarthy, who relies on her trusted team of stagers, workmen, window washers and cleaners to transform properties.
When asked what she loves about the real estate business, McCarthy says it’s thrilling to see joy on the faces of clients when they know they’ve found a great house. “Helping people land their dream homes makes me so happy.”
