Sitting Down with Andreozzi Architects

When architect David Andreozzi set to work designing a home for his friends, Charlie and Maria, he knew that he wanted it to be special—a celebration of fine craftsmanship and nautical influences. A circular driveway accented with soft grasses leads up to the elegant bungalow, which Andreozzi describes as “two arms welcoming you to the front door.”

Not only did Andreozzi draw inspiration from the clamshell driveways of the Cape, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, but also from the nautical history and culture of Bristol, Rhode Island. Charlie wanted the house to be expressive of high-quality craftsmanship and materials while matching the aesthetic of the neighborhood. “Charlie’s inner soul comes from the sea,” says Andreozzi. Everything about the design ties together with the nautical theme, all the way down to the stairway newel posts that were inspired by bowsprits from old, wooden boats. “This house is like an old, beautiful boat that doesn’t go out on the sea,” says Andreozzi. Casual yet elegant, the home is like a special getaway.
