Sip an oyster. Then sip your French wine. And repeat.
These are the uncomplicated instructions given by Ruby Wines’ Dan Michaud during Oh Shucks! at the Edgartown Yacht Club. The event is one of two dozen that take place during the Martha’s Vineyard Food and Wine Festival every fall. Currently in its tenth year, the four-day “celebration of sea, farm and vine” attracts close to 2,500 food and wine lovers.
“This was incubated 11 or 12 years ago with some thought of celebrating the farmers of the vineyard,” says Michaud. “Our first few years, it was celebrating the harvest that was going on here and we wanted to do it in this incredible time of year of October.”
New England Living TV host Parker Kelley and the team visited the annual event, which took place on a warm, sunny October weekend. Flowers were still in bloom and the sun’s orange glow hung on until the early evening.
From the Grand Tasting at the Harborview Hotel to a walking tour with local architect Patrick Ahearn, the festival not only celebrates the island’s many charms, the event also benefits local organizations such as the Agricultural Society’s Farmers Program and Island Grown Schools.
