All the for Beach on Mason’s Island

Ten years ago, Stacy and Dan moved their family of seven out of busy downtown Mystic and on to Mason’s Island, just a mile away. Their shingle-clad home with a gambrel roof is surrounded by forest, lush gardens add life to the yard in summer, and while they are only a short distance from their old house—it feels a world apart.

“The island is approximately 600 acres with many of those acres being preservation land, hiking trails and bird sanctuaries,” says host Parker Kelley, so it feels secluded and private.

Either way you turn out of the driveway, the ocean is just a block away. The family’s affinity for the coast is apparent in the blue-and-white “beachy casual” design. Even the art, some original pieces, depicts the nearby maritime culture.

With five children and lots of friends and extended family around, they can be a big crew when they get together, so it was important for Stacy and Dan to have a house that was open, but had plenty of places to gather. The “Great Room”  is a popular hangout, and the dining room reflects their true priorities.

“It’s really about making great food and great conversations and fun. The room comes to life with all of that instead of just the things in here,” says Stacy.
