If you’ll be looking for something to do with the little ones when April’s school vacation week rolls around, you’re in luck. There’s a lot happening all over New England.
Massachusetts has made things especially easy by compiling information on the MassVacation website. Simply pick your region on the April Staycation page and you’ll be directed to a list of what’s going on in your neck of the state. Brief descriptions of each event, along with a hyperlink to the venue’s website, make planning fun days of family activities a breeze.
Mystic, Connecticut is certain to be all abuzz all that week and both the Mystic Aquarium and Mystic Seaport have special events planned, geared specifically toward families with children, in addition to the fun and informative programs that run throughout the year.
In Newport, RI, you’ll find four of the famed mansions open for tours: The Breakers, Chateau-sur-Mer, The Elms, and Marble House & Rosecliff. Each is open daily. At the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium in Providence, the planetarium – typically closed this time of year – will offer a 2:00 p.m. show.
Barring any unforeseen major warmup – impossible to predict this winter – both New Hampshire and Vermont should prove the perfect destination for spring skiing.
If your family loves being outside, but has no desire to plummet down a hill at a rapid pace, head north to Acadia National Park. If there’s still snow on the ground, there are tons of ways to get out and enjoy the crisp air.
And whether you have plans to stay close to home or travel to another state in New England, checking into a hotel with an indoor pool – even if it’s only for a night at a hotel right down the street from your house – is surefire way to make the kids they’ve had the best April vacation…ever.
