Transform your home into a cozy retreat with ski-chalet style.
If you can’t sneak away for a snowy break this winter (or if you want to continue the mountain vibe after a weekend on the slopes), there are plenty of ways to bring an après ski atmosphere into your home.

“Après ski is all about taking the chill off when you come inside, and reflecting slope-side alpine conviviality,” says Dianne O’Connor, Founder & CEO of Weston Table, an online shop for artisanal and vintage home goods. “And it is easy to pull together.”

O’Connor recommends inviting guests to linger by providing vibrantly colored wool or alpaca throws draped over chairs and sofas, and to create an aromatic aura. “Light pine, cedar, or orange scented candles create pools of glow reminiscent of ski lodges and transport the senses to mountain air,” she says.

Noting that après ski is as much about sociable drinks as cozy conversation, O’Connor finds that setting up a polished bar cart or sideboard stocked with copper mugs, vintage glassware, and a few elegant bottles can set the stage. “Think mulled wine in enamelware mugs, hot buttered rum in handmade pottery cups, or champagne coupes for celebratory evenings,” she says. “And offer hearty nibbles—fondue, charcuterie, or warm pretzels.”

Another suggestion from O’Connor is to arrange your seating close together, which will encourage conversation. “An après ski lounge is less about polish and more about shared comfort,” she explains. “Done with taste and intention, it feels both indulgent and welcoming.”
